Mukran Port for strengthening the tourism region Rügen

Sassnitz-Mukran, Dezember 07, 2018 - The Rügen Island would like to become even more interesting for cruise passengers with a bundling of tourist offers. This is the conclusion of the networking event "Destination Rügen - Cruise & Ferry Networking", to which the Mukran Port had invited on Thursday (6 December). Numerous representatives of the tourism industry of the Rügen Island and the surrounding area took part in the event. The main focus was on finding ideas to sharpen the tourist profile of the island with a view of the cruise lines. Dr. Stefan Kerth, the district administrator of the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, reaffirmed with his participation and a greeting word the importance of this concern.

Individual-market shipping companies with smaller vessels account for around 25 percent of ship calls in the Baltic Sea region. In the search for alternative destinations for stop-off stays away from the major cruise ports, the smaller Baltic Sea ports are gaining importance, from which Rügen should also benefit as the largest German island.
At the initiative of Mukran Port, representatives of politics, the local economy, the tourism industry and shipping companies came together to discuss marketing strategies for the Rügen region and the port as a cruise destination. The topic was introduced to the participants through lectures by Yana Grundke, Cruise Coordinator Mukran Port, Hartmut Beyer, HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH and Thomas Langlotz, Commercial Director Mukran Port. The common goal is to bundle the tourist attractions of Rügen and the surrounding area in order to be able to offer passengers an attractive shore excursions.

Harm Sievers, Managing Director Mukran Port, called for close cooperation between the local tourism industry and their associations: "We have increased demand from national and international shipping companies for regular calls in Mukran. With this initiative we would like to stimulate a new welcome culture for day visitors. Together we should examine the existing offers and which still have to be developed on the island. "
At the subsequent traditional Mukran Port-Nikolausparty with port-networking of the Port Sassnitz Mukran r.o. at the "Old Customs Hall", the discussions between politics, economy and tourism were deepened in a maritime-casual atmosphere and with hearty hospitality.
