Sassnitz-Mukran, January 31, 2019 - For the first time in the history of the port, three Handysize general cargo ships were handled at the same time in the Mukran Port. Handysize are bulk carriers with a carrying capacity of 15,000 to 35,000 tons. The port has also proven its efficiency in the general cargo and bulk goods sector. The modern general cargo ship "Haaga" with LNG propulsion made its maiden call at the Mukran Port Terminal. The general cargo from Russia was transported by rail to the hinterland. The organisation and execution of the block train on-carriage was in the hands of the port's own railway company Baltic Port Rail Mukran GmbH. The other two ships, the "Nordschelde" and "Charlie", served the local import and export industry. Mukran Port was already able to draw a positive balance for the year 2018, which was characterised by offshore and bulk cargo handling. After this successful start to the year with intensive work at the transhipment terminals, the port operator can look to the financial year 2019 with confidence. "We assume that the current high workload is a sign for the further development of Mukran Port in 2019. We intend to further expand our good project business and at the same time drive industrial development in the port. We also anticipate an increase in the overall volume of cargo handled in the agricultural sector, among others," says Harm Sievers, Managing Director of Mukran Port.
