Welcome to Sassniz, the port town between the rocky chalk cliffs and the sandy beaches of Ruegen island!
The impressive chalk coast with its primeval beech forest is located at the Jasmund Nation Park. This 13 km long unique landscape with spectacular views onto the sea is part of the World Natural Heritage list. It starts directly at the edge of town, which makes Sassnitz an ideal starting point for cycling and hiking tours into nature.
Sassnitz originates from a small fishing village and a nearby farming village, which were merged into a town turned into popular spa resort at the 19th century. It is well-known for ist beautiful villas built in the style of the seaside-resort architecture. Artisian workshops, ship chandlers and sail makers, museums and shops with regional products are to be found beside the fish shop and fish restaurants. A stroll along one of the longest outer moles of Europe with its 1,444 m will be rewarded by a fish roll filled with tasty marinades or smoked fish.
