Sassnitz-Mukran, 12.02.2021 — Last year, after a successful test phase, the container connection between China and Europe via the Short Sea connection Mukran (Germany) - Baltiysk (Russia/Kaliningrad region) was established as a regular, stable and congestion-free connection with four departures a week in each direction. The connection to Scandinavia has been significantly improved with the cargo connection to Karlshamn (Sweden). Containers to and from China no longer have to take the diversions via Hamburg and Denmark to reach Sweden.

The handling of agricultural products has increased significantly, which has also increased the number of grain trains arriving in Mukran accordingly. Structures were changed at the Sassnitz city port and cooperation was strengthened, resulting in more synergies. Two locomotives were christened at the site Mukran last year. Further modern equipment for fast and smooth cargo handling was acquired.

Despite the Corona pandemic, a high-speed catamaran connection to Ystad in Sweden has been opened, which cuts journey times between Sweden and Germany by more than half compared to other passenger routes.

The Mukran Port team wishes all partners, acquaintances and friends a happy Chinese New Year and a wonderful time with the family. We seize this opportunity to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation for your support and attention to the Mukran Port Group in the past year and wish you good health and all the best in the New Year!

Good luck in the Year of the Ox!

Happy New Year!

Sassnitz-Mukran, 04.02.2021 — After the Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam (EGP), which is the most frequent visitor to the Mukran Port, the Havelländische Eisenbahn (HVLE) is also a regular guest at the site. The HVLE's bulk goods experts were this year for the eighth time with a grain train in Mukran. The Baltic Port Rail Mukran actively supports the delivery to the bulk material chute and the corresponding unloading at the grain terminal.

Sassnitz-Mukran, 29.01.2021 — What a busy week, packed with online events from various networks that connect Mukran Port with its competent partners!

At the start of the week, we took part at the German-British Logistics Forum. At the event organized by the "Logistics Alliance Germany e.V." association, questions and solutions on the effects of Brexit on the logistics industry were discussed. Interesting for the port with regard to the fish processing plant, which is operating at the site, as well as possible future transport flows between the British Isles and Mukran.

Afterwards, Mukran Port participated in a virtual session at the One Million Club organized by UTLC ERA with the support of CCTT. The managing director of Mukran Port Harm Sievers presented the multimodal solutions in China-Europe container transport to more than 100 other participants, which are successfully implemented jointly by Mukran Port, Bahnoperator, Port of Karlshamn and others involved. Other speakers with their qualified speeches and interesting presentations also ensured that the event was exciting and educational.

Seamlessly, we then moved on to the first official edition of "Coffee-table gossip - a virtual coffee break". At this event in the new Project Logistics Alliance format, we met specialists from our field in virtual meeting rooms with tables for 2, 4 or more to discuss the latest industry news, business cases or the pros and cons of working from home. A great opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with already known partners and friends.

Last but not least: Webinar on Capacity Building Road and Rail Agreements organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) with the support of CCTT as a part of the UN-wide Development Account Project "Transport and Trade Connectivity in the Age of Pandemics". Discussions were held on the cooperation measures required at the regional level, which may be necessary to support the formulation of crisis response proposals in Asia and the Pacific.

Sassnitz-Mukran, 26.01.2021 — After several trips with single containers via Karlshamn - Mukran, the first block train from Sweden reached Mukran Port last night (by ship, capacity of a complete train) and will be further transported to China. Due to Karlshamn - Mukran sea connection, the Swedish market is linked to the "Baltic Sea Bridge", which organises with its partners regular container trains to and from China, via the short sea connection Mukran - Baltiysk (Russia / Kaliningrad region). All containers incoming from Sweden are transported directly to Baltiysk and on to China through the existing service.

Sassnitz-Mukran, 18.12.2020 -The Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam mbH (EGP for short) presented the new design for one of its smartrons at Mukran Port yesterday. In cooperation with Railcolor-Ziemon, DBO bahnoperator GmbH as well as partners of the Mukran Port Group a design was created that reflects the philosophy of all three parties involved as well as the theme of the new Silk Road via the Mukran hub.

In November 2019, the first trial transport started on the new alternative Silk Road from Mukran to Mannheim under the Belt and Road Initiative. Thanks to the successful project development, the product, in addition to transport services within Germany, is now also trafficked directly to Rotterdam. EGP provides the rail services in Germany for the Mukran Port Group. Only Smartron electric locomotives from Siemens are used. These pull the trains, some of which are up to 740 metres long and carry up to 50 x 40-foot containers, not only quickly but also in a climate-friendly manner across Germany and Europe.

Sassnitz-Mukran, December 17, 2020 — Due to the measures taken to contain the Corona pandemic, ship crews are currently not allowed to go ashore in Mukran Port and Sassnitz City Port. To give them a little joy in this situation, the Port Sassnitz-Mukran e.V. distributed 500 chocolate Santas and Stollen to the seafarers on 16 December.
"No matter if cargo ship, offshore service vessel or cruise ship - with this small gesture we want to show all sailors of the crews that despite the fact that they have to stay on board, we still think of them. They are the ones who keep international freight traffic running and they do a great job indeed," said Harm Sievers, chairman of Port Sassnitz-Mukran e.V. "Many thanks to all of them who now have to perform their already hard work under these difficult conditions!"

Sassnitz-Mukran, November 17, 2020 — From 9 to 11 November 2020 Mukran Port Group presented itself at the "West China International Supply Chain and Logistics Expo" in Chengdu (China). The conference "5th Asia-Europe International Transport and Logistics Cooperation Forum" which took place within the exhibition was held in cooperation with the "Europe Silk Road Summit 2020", which was held simultaneously in Europe. Again and again, both events were digitally linked with each other. Representatives of the Mukran Port Group took part in both presence events in China as well as in the digital version in Europe. In China, important contacts were established and maintained and the Mukran site was further promoted with its rapid development as a part of the Belt & Road Initiative.

Sassnitz-Mukran, October 30, 2020 — Mukran Port significantly expanded its transport connections on the New Silk Road in October. In addition to a direct container train between Mukran and Rotterdam, weekly short sea services to Scandinavia (Karlshamn, Sweden) and Lithuania (Klaipeda) now complement the Baltic Sea Port's service portfolio. In addition, Mukran is adding the ElbePort Wittenberge to its network of German hinterland hubs. A second ship now operates four departures in each direction on the Mukran-Baltijsk route.

Sassnitz-Mukran, September 29, 2020 — After almost all important trade fairs and conferences were cancelled this year due to the global pandemic or were held as online events, an event was held for the first time again in regular exhibition halls in Shenzhen from 23 - 25 September 2020. The CILF [China(Shenzhen) International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair] is one of the largest and most important logistics events in China. In addition to the normal trade fair operations, the fifth Sea-rail Transport & Cross-border Transportation Forum also took place. At both events the "Baltic Sea Bridge" was represented by our representative in China. Important discussions were held on the alternative route of the Baltic Sea Bridge across the Baltic Sea, as well as information on the future development of the Belt & Road Initiative.

Sassnitz-Mukran, 18.08.2020 — Since the end of March, Mukran Port Terminals GmbH has been operating a fixed sea route as part of the New Silk Road between Asia and Europe in cooperation with DBO Bahnoperator GmbH under the "flag" Baltic Sea Bridge. Due to the excellent capacity utilisation in June, an increase in frequency and the deployment of a larger vessel could be announced. The next milestone for the still young corridor on the New Silk Road is now following. The MS Milady is currently en route with the 5000th container unit (TEU) in the direction of Baltijsk (Kaliningrad region).

Sassnitz-Mukran, June 26, 2020 — Under the brand name "FRS Königslinjen", the fastest ferry line from the European mainland to Sweden will start regular service from autumn 2020. A high-speed catamaran with a car deck will then link Sassnitz with Ystad in southern Sweden.

Sassnitz-Mukran, June 15, 2020 — Today, Monday, the Danish shipping company Molslinjen A/S resumed ferry traffic between the Mukran Port, on the island of Rügen, and the Port of Rønne, on the Danish island of Bornholm. This was made possible by the reopening of the border between Denmark and Germany as of today and the lifting of the German government's general travel warning for EU countries. Due to high booking demand at the start, a second ship had to be deployed.

Sassnitz-Mukran, March 23, 2020 — For the first time in its 34-year history, Mukran Port has offered a direct transport route to Estonia since March 20. Tallink Silja's ship Star will in future operate between Paldiski and Sassnitz to ensure the transport of goods, especially food and medicine, between the Baltic, the Nordic countries and Western Europe.

Sassnitz-Mukran, February 03, 2020 - A joint meeting of representatives of Mukran Port, Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen mbH (VVR) and the local shipping companies will lead to an improved connection of the location to the local public transport system. With this measure, cruise and ferry passengers will in future be able to explore Germany's largest island more easily.

In times of climate change and the idea of sustainability, an increasingly green trend can also be seen in the tourism industry. For the discussion partners, this development is particularly apparent in the declining numbers of guests travelling by car or plane. Especially tourists from the Scandinavian countries increasingly use the existing train and ferry connections. A strong indication is the increase in the load factor and the significantly higher number of departures of the night train Malmö-Berlin via the ferry connection Trelleborg-Sassnitz.
