Sassnitz-Mukran, October 30, 2020 — Mukran Port significantly expanded its transport connections on the New Silk Road in October. In addition to a direct container train between Mukran and Rotterdam, weekly short sea services to Scandinavia (Karlshamn, Sweden) and Lithuania (Klaipeda) now complement the Baltic Sea Port's service portfolio. In addition, Mukran is adding the ElbePort Wittenberge to its network of German hinterland hubs. A second ship now operates four departures in each direction on the Mukran-Baltijsk route.

Sassnitz-Mukran, September 29, 2020 — After almost all important trade fairs and conferences were cancelled this year due to the global pandemic or were held as online events, an event was held for the first time again in regular exhibition halls in Shenzhen from 23 - 25 September 2020. The CILF [China(Shenzhen) International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair] is one of the largest and most important logistics events in China. In addition to the normal trade fair operations, the fifth Sea-rail Transport & Cross-border Transportation Forum also took place. At both events the "Baltic Sea Bridge" was represented by our representative in China. Important discussions were held on the alternative route of the Baltic Sea Bridge across the Baltic Sea, as well as information on the future development of the Belt & Road Initiative.

 

Sassnitz-Mukran, 18.08.2020 — Since the end of March, Mukran Port Terminals GmbH has been operating a fixed sea route as part of the New Silk Road between Asia and Europe in cooperation with DBO Bahnoperator GmbH under the "flag" Baltic Sea Bridge. Due to the excellent capacity utilisation in June, an increase in frequency and the deployment of a larger vessel could be announced. The next milestone for the still young corridor on the New Silk Road is now following. The MS Milady is currently en route with the 5000th container unit (TEU) in the direction of Baltijsk (Kaliningrad region).

 

Sassnitz-Mukran, June 26, 2020 — Under the brand name "FRS Königslinjen", the fastest ferry line from the European mainland to Sweden will start regular service from autumn 2020. A high-speed catamaran with a car deck will then link Sassnitz with Ystad in southern Sweden. 

Sassnitz-Mukran, June 15, 2020 — Today, Monday, the Danish shipping company Molslinjen A/S resumed ferry traffic between the Mukran Port, on the island of Rügen, and the Port of Rønne, on the Danish island of Bornholm. This was made possible by the reopening of the border between Denmark and Germany as of today and the lifting of the German government's general travel warning for EU countries. Due to high booking demand at the start, a second ship had to be deployed.

 

Sassnitz-Mukran, March 23, 2020 — For the first time in its 34-year history, Mukran Port has offered a direct transport route to Estonia since March 20. Tallink Silja's ship Star will in future operate between Paldiski and Sassnitz to ensure the transport of goods, especially food and medicine, between the Baltic, the Nordic countries and Western Europe.

Sassnitz-Mukran, February 03, 2020 - A joint meeting of representatives of Mukran Port, Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen mbH (VVR) and the local shipping companies will lead to an improved connection of the location to the local public transport system. With this measure, cruise and ferry passengers will in future be able to explore Germany's largest island more easily.

In times of climate change and the idea of sustainability, an increasingly green trend can also be seen in the tourism industry. For the discussion partners, this development is particularly apparent in the declining numbers of guests travelling by car or plane. Especially tourists from the Scandinavian countries increasingly use the existing train and ferry connections. A strong indication is the increase in the load factor and the significantly higher number of departures of the night train Malmö-Berlin via the ferry connection Trelleborg-Sassnitz.

Sassnitz-Mukran, December 20, 2019 - With the first strategy dialogue, the HyStarter project was launched in Stralsund on 17 December 2019. The aim of this project is to show concrete ways in the Rügen-Stralsund region how green hydrogen - hydrogen generated from renewable electricity - can be produced and made usable in the region.

Sassnitz-Mukran, November 19, 2019 - The first direct freight train connection between China and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania arrived at Mukran Port on Tuesday 12th November. The train going east started its journey with 48 Containers. The 640m long freight train going west started its 10.000 km long trip from Xi´an in China via Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus to Baltijsk in Kaliningrad loaded with 41 Containers, where they were loaded onto a short sea carrier. Arriving at Mukran Port the team of Mukran Port Terminals GmbH & Co. KG handled the cargo and lifted the containers back onto a train.This new route of the “Silk Road Initiative” was ceremonially inaugurated by all parties and persons involved. 
“With this first train from Xi´an, Mukran Port will be perceived more strongly as an ideal European logistics location/base. I am firmly convinced that many more trains from the Middle Kingdom will follow – thanks, too, to our business partners in Kaliningrad.”, said Harm Sievers, managing director of Mukran Port, about the arrival of the pilot train.

Sassnitz-Mukran, September 27, 2019 – The project partners of the Interreg project SOUTH BALTIC TRANSPORT LOOPS came together for a partnership meeting in Mukran at the invitation of the "lead partner" Mukran Port. The representatives of the ports of Elblag (Poland), Karlshamn (Sweden), Mukran (Germany) and Roenne (Denmark) as well as the Klaipeda Shipping Research Centre (Lithuania) worked together for two days on the individual topics of the project. In addition, the further strategic and operational procedures for the project, which has been running since 2018, were defined.

Sassnitz-Mukran, September 20t, 2019 – since more than two decades the Mukran Port has been preparing young people for their professional lives and this year four trainees started their apprenticeship on 01.08.2019. Wiebke Schlieker, Anne Mahlke and Tim Buckert learn the profession of office management assistant in the administration. The port service are now supported by Florian Falk, who is learning the profession of port logistician. Currently, twelve apprentices are being trained in the company. We wish everyone a succesfull start at the Mukran Port!

Sassnitz-Mukran, August 21, 2019 - A total of 1000 visitors came to Mukran Port on 16 and 17 August to find out more about offshore wind energy. Numerous companies from the industry presented their projects vividly at the "Fascination of Offshore Wind" with models, films and pictures and were available to answer visitors' questions. On Saturday (17 August), guided tours of the Iberdrola and E.ON buildings as well as harbour tours were also offered. A special highlight this year was the offshore rescue helicopter and the altitude rescue of the Sassnitz fire brigade, who answered the questions of the interested guests at the event. 

With the "Fascination Offshore Wind" Mukran Port offers a platform for the exchange between locals, tourists and companies that are important for the region. The public exhibition is an important opportunity for the offshore industry to present itself to the public, to inform them about its own work and thus to increase public acceptance of offshore wind energy," said Robert Krüger, offshore project developer at Mukran Port, summing up the successful weekend.

Sassnitz-Mukran, August 14, 2019 - On the 5-day island hopping tour at the Baltic Sea, Birka Stockholm called the Mukran Port yesterday for the second time in the season. The 1,400 passengers discovered the highlights of Rügen and Stralsund and tasted regional products. The ship will also be a guest on Germany's largest island next year.

Sassnitz-Mukran, August 7, 2019 - The successful ten-year cooperation between Mukran Port and Wilhelm Hoyer GmbH & Co KG from Visselhövede at the Mukran site is extended by a fully automated bunkering station for service ships. By the end of the year, a tank facility for Marine Gas Oil (MGO) will be jointly built, which will be available around the clock for refuelling ships operating in the Baltic Sea.

Sassnitz-Mukran, August 5, 2019 - As part of his annual summer tour, Christian Pegel, Minister of Energy, Transport and Digitisation, made a stop at Mukran Port.
Mr. Pegel was accompanied by Prof. Kurt Bodewig, the European coordinator for motorways of the sea.
Besides a harbour tour with representatives of the harbour, all participants visited the operation and maintenance building of the offshore wind farm "Wikinger" of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola as well as the grain terminal of VIELA Export GmbH.

 

Sassnitz-Mukran, August 5, 2019 - With 1.114 passengers, the Vasco Da Gama entered the Mukran Port again on August 2. In bright sunshine, the passengers explored the most popular sights of Rügen, Stralsund's old town and the car-free island of Hiddensee. After a ten-hour berthing period, the ship set course for the Baltic metropolises.

Sassnitz-Mukran, July 23, 2019 - Cruise & Maritime Voyages / TransOcean Cruises' newest fleet member, the Vasco da Gama, arrived at Mukran Port in the early morning hours. As part of an on-board reception, the mayor of the city of Sassnitz Frank Kracht welcomed the captain of the ship. The 219 m long and 30.8 m wide cruise ship offers space for 1,220 passengers and will be operating in the Baltic Sea in July and August.

Sassnitz-Mukran, July 11, 2019 - The Mukran Port is increasingly focusing on green mobility. The current contribution to climate protection in the port is the conversion of the company's own car fleet to electric vehicles. Initially, three Renault Zoe electric cars will be used for transport on the site itself and for routes to Stralsund. The necessary charging infrastructure has also already been installed in the port area.

Sassnitz-Mukran, July 03, 2019 - With almost 1,400 passengers, the Birka Stockholm called the Mukran Port yesterday. By sunny weather, the predominantly Swedish guests visited the most popular destinations on the island such as the Jasmund National Park, Cape Arkona, treetop path, rail journey with "Racing Roland" to the seaside resorts and the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.

 

Sassnitz-Mukran, Mai 16, 2019 - The transformation of the Mukran Port into a modern universal port continues. This is the result of the 9th "Mukran Port - The Annual Summit", which took place on Friday, May 10, and brought together around 150 representatives from politics, associations and companies in the port. The BREB shipping company and the Spanish energy company Iberdrola are proof of the success of the diversification-based course. The summit formed the framework for the expansion of the port's strategic development.
